In a proud moment for Somaiya Vidyavihar University, two of our students have been selected to represent India at the 15th Senior Rhythmic Gymnastics Asian Championships, scheduled to be held at Tashkent (Uzbekistan) from 2nd to 4th May 2024. Vaibhavi Pravin Bapat from S K Somaiya College, pursuing SY – MA, and Mihika Bandiwadekar from Somaiya Sports Academy, enrolled in FY B.Sc. Sports & Exercise Science, have earned this prestigious opportunity through their dedication and hard work.
The journey to this remarkable achievement began with the Selection Trials for Rhythmic Gymnastics, which took place at The Sports Planet Gymnastics Academy in Gurugram (Haryana) on 28th and 29th February 2024. Vaibhavi and Mihika showcased their exceptional skills and talent, catching the eye of selectors amidst stiff competition. Their performances stood out, securing them a coveted spot in the Indian contingent.
Following their selection, the two talented gymnasts have been undergoing rigorous training at the India camp, gearing up for the Asian Championships. Training camps are crucial in refining techniques, enhancing stamina, and perfecting routines, ensuring that the athletes are at the peak of their abilities when they step onto the international stage.
Vaibhavi Pravin Bapat, representing S K Somaiya College, has displayed remarkable prowess in rhythmic gymnastics. Her dedication to the sport and commitment to continuous improvement have been instrumental in her success. Mihika Bandiwadekar, hailing from Somaiya Sports Academy, brings her expertise in Sports & Exercise Science to her rhythmic gymnastics routines, showcasing a blend of athleticism and technical finesse.
The Asian Championships serve as a platform for athletes to test their skills against the best in the continent, providing invaluable exposure and experience. Representing their country at such a prestigious event is not only a testament to Vaibhavi and Mihika’s individual talents but also a reflection of the training and support they have received from their coaches, mentors, and the university.
As they embark on this journey to Tashkent, Vaibhavi and Mihika carry with them the hopes and aspirations of a nation.
