K J Somaiya Institute of Dharma Studies (KJSIDS) conducted a Yoga camp at Jetwan, an outreach center located at Sakarwadi between 13-15 July 2023. The camp aimed at promotion of health awareness, importance of yogic life-style in modern era and application of yogic insights in developing personality and harmony in body and mind. The instructor of this camp was Dr Brijesh Singh, Assistant Professor of Yoga in KJSIDS.
The schedule of the camp was planned considering the schedule of students as well as women in the locality to encourage their participation in large numbers. The participants in the camp could understand the process of achieving integration of Body-mind and Intellect through Yoga practices. The camp explained the preventive measures for diseases with the help of Yogic life -style, some easy postures, breathing exercises, relaxation techniques, Mudra and Bandhas, Meditation and Concentration techniques etc.
The three days of the camp were dedicated to the different age groups. The first day was for students of Somaiya school, Laksmiwadi and was based on the theme ‘Man making and Character Building’. Students could learn postures, Yogic micro practices, meditation techniques to improve memory, concentration, attention, observation skills, changing perceptions etc. This learning was a value addition for the students as they could also understand its application in their real life.
The second day was dedicated to the students of Sharda English Medium School, Kopargaon who also enjoyed the session and made it successful through their active participation. On the second day, a session was conducted for the local community members at Jetwan. The women in the locality mainly participated in it and found it very useful and relevant.
Day three of the camp was organized for the students of Somaiya Vinaya Mandir, Sakarwadi. It focused on personality development through Yoga education. It also touched upon the career opportunities in the field of Yoga to motivate the students to pursue this further and explore more aspects of the field. The session also included training of Surya Namaskara and breathing techniques.
The camp was indeed successful due to a good response and active participation of the students.
