The students of S K Somaiya College of Commerce and Science witnessed a street play on anti-ragging organized and performed by the students of K J Somaiya College of Education in the former’s foyer on 18th August 2023.
The play was performed with the sheer goal to create awareness on anti-ragging under the guidance of Dr Hema Bhadawkar and Dr Manisha Gawde. The actors in the skit were Payal Rajpurohit, Iqra Sayed, Arpita Jain, Milonee Doshi, Raina Giria, Shadab Khan, Akshay Chilvery, Bhudhan Pendurkar, Raj Shelar and Krishna Pumbhadia. The skit mainly highlighted the consequences and punishments for the act and bullying of ragging.The whole act was plotted on a missing news of a 21 year old boy who fell victim to the exploitation by his own peers and college mates.
The play was set at a tone which perfectly balanced the seriousness of the cause and had humorous punchlines. The lead of the play was the mother who emotionally connected to the crowd through her expressions and dialogues. The actors who played the victim and the bullies made it a point to portray the depth of consequences of the actions carried out for ‘fun’. The laws and the punishments by the Union Grant Commision (UGC) and under IPC sections were stated clearly, distinctly and comprehensively by the news reporter of the act. The crowd was very well influenced by the whole skit and also displayed the understanding of the ills of ragging.
After the skit, the faculty of the S.K. Somaiya College gave heartwarming feedback and recognition to the entire team of K.J Somaiya College of Education for their efforts and hardwork which made the whole act a success.
