The K J Somaiya Institute of Dharma Studies (KJSIDS) hosted a grand celebration of the 9th International Yoga Day in collaboration with various institutes across Somaiya Vidyavihar Campus, including The Somaiya School, K J Somaiya College of Education, Somaiya Sports Academy, K J Somaiya College of Arts & Commerce, K J Somaiya College of Science & Commerce, S K Somaiya Junior College of Education, and Somaiya Sports Academy.
The event unfolded at Gargi Plaza with the ‘Common Yoga Protocol,’ where approximately 250 participants, including teachers, staff, and students, gathered from 7.30 to 8.30 am. The session featured a series of basic postures and breathing exercises that underscored the importance of physical and mental health through Yoga.
Dr. Rudraksha Sakrikar, Center Head, BSP, and Associate Professor at KJSIDS, conducted the second session in Shrimati Sakarben Sabhagriha. The lecture, titled ‘Yoga: Confluence of Several Traditions,’ dispelled common misconceptions about Yoga and delved into its multifaceted benefits. Dr. Sakrikar’s insightful talk also skillfully explained the profound connection between body and mind from both academic and spiritual perspectives.
A plethora of beautiful demonstrations followed, captivating the audience with various Yoga practices. Highlights included Shatkarma (cleansing techniques), pyramid formation with Yoga Asanas, Surya-namaskara, and more. The program featured impressive solo performances, advanced Yogasanas, and even a small play illuminating Patanjali’s teachings.
The demonstrations included students from diverse academic programs, such as MA Yogashastra, BA Yogashastra, and PGDYS from KJSIDS, along with students from S K Somaiya Junior College of Education, The Somaiya School, and K J Somaiya College of Education.
Reflecting on the importance of Yoga in contemporary times, Dr. Sakrikar noted, “Yoga is not just a physical practice but a holistic approach to well-being. Its unifying essence transcends cultures and traditions, offering profound insights for every individual.”
The celebration marked a significant occasion in fostering a culture of health, well-being, and unity among the Somaiya Vidyavihar Campus community. The successful collaboration of various institutes made the event a memorable and enriching experience for all participants.
