In a monumental step toward empowering women in sports, Somaiya Sports Academy  has announced the inception of a specialized Women’s Squash Training Programme.  Designed exclusively for Somaiya students, the initiative underscores the institution’s  ongoing commitment to fostering an inclusive and diverse sports culture on campus.

Hosted at the state-of-the-art Eklavya Sports Complex, the programme aims to not only introduce women to squash but also to develop their skills to a level of professional competency. “The goal is broader than just training; it’s about empowering women to take space, be it in sports or any other arena,” says the Mr. Aazaz Khan, Director-Somaiya Sports Academy.

The training sessions are meticulously scheduled to accommodate the busy academic lives of Somaiya students. Held every Friday from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. and Saturdays from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., the program ensures that passionate individuals do not have to compromise their education to follow their sporting dreams.

Leading these sessions will be experienced coaches, Adesh Gamre and Rohit Kadam, who bring with them a wealth of knowledge and a proven track record in coaching squash at competitive levels. “The students are in capable hands. Both coaches have the experience and the expertise to mentor the students not just in techniques but also in sportsmanship, strategy, and mental resilience,” assures Mr. Aazaz.

Moreover, the Academy promises a holistic development approach that goes beyond mere athletic training. The Women’s Squash Training Programme aims to nurture a sense of discipline, teamwork, and resilience among its participants—values that are not just critical on the sports field but also in life.

The initiation of this specialized squash training programme by Somaiya Sports Academy is a landmark move that demonstrates the institution’s earnestness in pushing societal boundaries and challenging the status quo. Through this programme, the Academy seeks to break down the barriers that have long deterred women from fully participating in sports, thereby making a lasting impact on the landscape of women’s sports in the academic world.
