Somaiya Vidyavihar University (SVU) celebrated another monumental milestone as it hosted its grand Convocation ceremony on September 16, 2023, at the magnificent campus in Vidyavihar, Mumbai.
A remarkable 2088 students from 7 diverse fields of study such as management studies, engineering and technology, education, science, commerce & business studies, humanities & social science, and dharma studies, donned their graduation caps, marking
the culmination of their academic journey.
The Convocation was graced by the presence of a true icon, Dr. Kiran Bedi, IPS (Retd), the Former Lieutenant Governor of Puducherry. Dr. Bedi, a pioneer in the world of law enforcement and a tireless social transformer, delivered the Convocation address that resonated with the audience’s hearts and minds. Shri Samir Somaiya, Chancellor of SVU, presided over the Convocation with an ardent belief in the power of education. In his address, he emphasized the university’s commitment to nurturing not just academicians but compassionate and responsible citizens of tomorrow. He remarked, “Today, you step into the world as ambassadors of SVU. We have faith in your ability to make a positive impact, not just professionally but also in the communities you become a part of.”
Professor V. N. Rajasekharan Pillai, Vice-Chancellor of SVU, acknowledged the students’ hard work and dedication. He celebrated the diverse talents that make SVU a unique institution. His words resonated with the graduates as they embarked on their respective journeys. He shared, “SVU’s strength lies in its ability to foster not just academic excellence but holistic growth. As you leave this institution, remember that your journey of learning and growth continues.”
The day was a vibrant tapestry of tradition, wisdom, and celebration. The Convocation activities commenced with the arrival of the Academic Procession and the solemn lighting of the lamp accompanied by the resonant strains of the Somaiya Prayer.
The Sanskrit Invocation set a spiritual tone, invoking blessings for the graduates.
The Welcome Address by university officials was followed by the Address by the Vice-Chancellor, where he spoke about SVU’s rich history. The Exhortation Ceremony instilled a sense of purpose in the graduates as they took their oath.t
Dr. Kiran Bedi’s Convocation Address stirred hearts and minds, inspiring the graduates to embark on their unique journeys. President Samir Somaiya’s address was a culmination of the day’s events, where he shared his vision for SVU’s future, which was followed by a Vote of Thanks, concluding the day’s festivities and expressing gratitude to all who made the event a grand success.
