BRICS Sports Committee President visits Somaiya Sports Academy for Pioneering Sports Exchange Program

In an exciting move towards international sports collaboration, Somaiya Vidyavihar University (SVU) hosted a prestigious delegation led by Mr. Dmitri Fridman, President of the BRICS Sports Committee. The delegation also included Dr. Elena Remizova, Director of the Indo-Russian Science and Cultural Center, Mumbai.

The purpose of the visit was to explore a groundbreaking sports athletes exchange program between India and Russia. The delegation was welcomed by key university officials including Mr. Aazaz Khan, Director of Somaiya Sports Academy, Prof Satyendra Upadhyay, Director of International Relations at SVU, Prof Anjali Chopra, Associate Professor at KJSIM, Prof Meena Barot, Adjunct Professor of Sports Management at KJSIM, and the cricket & football coaches.

The meeting was marked by robust discussions on fostering and nurturing talent in various sports disciplines through mutual cooperation. The proposed exchange program will focus on enhancing the skills of athletes through training, mentorship, and exposure to international standards of sportsmanship.

The visit also involved an inspection of the university’s sports facilities, followed by a presentation on the existing sports programs and the achievements of Somaiya Sports Academy. The delegation expressed satisfaction with the current initiatives and expressed eagerness to proceed with the collaborative venture.

Mr. Dmitri Fridman, on behalf of the BRICS Sports Committee, expressed enthusiasm about the opportunity to engage with a premier institution like SVU. He stated, “This collaboration represents a significant step in strengthening sports relations between India and Russia. We are looking forward to a fruitful partnership that promotes talent and takes our sporting endeavors to new heights.”

The visit concluded with a formal agreement to draft a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) outlining the future collaboration. Both parties acknowledged the immense potential of the proposed exchange program in contributing to the growth and development of sports education and training in both countries.

Somaiya Vidyavihar University continues to demonstrate its commitment to global partnerships and excellence in sports education. The visit by Mr. Dmitri Fridman and Dr. Elena Remizova marks an essential milestone in SVU’s endeavor to create new opportunities for students and athletes alike.
