Transforming Classrooms with AI: An In-depth Workshop for Forward-thinking Educators

K J Somaiya College of Education had organized a workshop for the students on “How Educators can leverage AI to improve effectiveness and efficiency” on 8th september 2023. Mr Pratik Rajulkar from Polymath.AI conducted an enlightening and informative hands-on session for the students of KJ Somaiya College of Education with an objective to educate students about the practical applications of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in education and equip them with the knowledge and skills to effectively utilize AI tools for teaching and learning purposes. The two hour session revolved around the application of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in education, with a particular focus on how AI can assist educators in creating effective lesson plans and teaching resources.

Participants were actively engaged in a hands-on session where they learned how to craft prompts effectively to elicit better responses from Chat GPT. This aspect was crucial in understanding how AI can be harnessed to generate customized and high-quality content.Mr. Rajulkar provided a comprehensive overview of the limitations and capabilities of Chat GPT. Students gained insights into what this AI tool can and cannot do, ensuring a realistic understanding of its potential in education.

The session delved into various AI tools such as perplexity and a lesson plan generator, broadening the students’ knowledge of the AI applications in education. An explanation of iterative prompts and how to create personalized conversations was also included.The session continued with tips on creating effective prompts for Chat GPT and explored its potential in assessment, diagnostic testing, and remediation, highlighting its versatility in the educational domain.

The participants were divided into several groups and given various tasks including creating lesson plans, crafting customized feedback, generating context-specific content, and devising higher-order questions. This approach allowed students to apply their newfound knowledge practically. A dedicated Q&A session provided students with the opportunity to clarify doubts and seek further insights into AI in education. Certificates were distributed to the participants to acknowledge their active participation.

The hands-on activities and group tasks added a practical dimension to their learning, making the session a resounding success.
