Somaiya Vidyavihar Students Embark on Swachhata Mission at Hanuman Temple

In a commendable response to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s nationwide appeal for the cleaning of temples and places of worship, students from Somaiya Vidyavihar University took the initiative to conduct a Swachhata Abhiyan at the local Hanuman Temple in Tilak Nagar, Chembur. This significant event, organized by the Somaiya Vidyavihar Student’s Welfare, took place on January 16, 2024, and marked a shining example of youth participation in community service.

The clean-up drive saw enthusiastic involvement from students of both Somaiya Vidyavihar and Somaiya Ayurvihar campuses. Equipped with cleaning materials provided by the university’s housekeeping staff, the students set about their task with dedication and joy, embodying the spirit of service and community involvement.

The initiative was more than just a cleaning drive; it represented a bridge of connection between the students and the local community. Temple authorities expressed profound gratitude and appreciation towards the students’ efforts. This event was particularly noteworthy as it was the first instance of college students undertaking such service for the Hanuman Temple, adding a layer of uniqueness and significance to the initiative.

The students’ participation in the Swachhata Abhiyan is not only a direct contribution to the cleanliness and upkeep of a significant place of worship but also an embodiment of the values that Somaiya Vidyavihar instills in its students – those of community service, responsibility, and respect for cultural and religious sites.

This initiative aligns perfectly with the broader vision of the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, a nationwide campaign aimed at cleaning up the streets, roads, and infrastructure across India. It also resonates with the special moment awaiting the nation – the opening of the Ram Temple in Ayodhya, an event that has captured the imagination and spiritual sentiments of millions across the country.

As the students of Somaiya Vidyavihar return to their academic pursuits, they carry with them not only the satisfaction of having contributed positively to their community but also the invaluable experience of having partaken in a project that transcends the boundaries of mere academic education, venturing into the realms of social responsibility and cultural respect.

The Swachhata Abhiyan at Hanuman Temple serves as an inspiring reminder of the power of youth in shaping a cleaner, more respectful, and cohesive society. It sets a precedent for other educational institutions to follow, fostering a sense of social responsibility and community service in the hearts of young students across the nation.
