Somaiya Vidyavihar University is honored to announce its role as the host for the Association of Indian Universities (AIU) West Zone Vice Chancellors’ Meet for the academic year 2023-24. Scheduled to take place on December 19-20, 2023, this event is a precursor to the AIU’s 98th Annual General Body Meet and National Conference of Vice Chancellors in March 2024. The overarching theme for this year’s series of meetings is “Higher Education@2047,” which aims to project the future landscape of higher education in India by the year 2047, marking 100 years of the country’s independence.
The West Zone Meet will be inaugurated by the Hon’ble Governor of Maharashtra, Shri Ramesh Bais. Invitations have also been extended to Shri Ekanath Shinde, Chief Minister of Maharashtra; Shri Chandrakant Patil, Higher & Technical Education Minister, Government of Maharashtra; and Shri Prakash Chandra Rastogi, Principal Secretary Higher & Technical Education, Government of Maharashtra.
The West Zone Meet, hosted by Somaiya Vidyavihar University, will focus specifically on the future of work and skill development. It will provide a platform for in-depth discussions on sub-themes such as sustainable careers in a dynamic work landscape, human-centered skills in a tech-driven world including soft skills and emotional intelligence, and the impact of the gig economy on higher education. These sessions are designed to address the complex interplay of social, technological, economic, and cultural factors that are shaping the future of higher education and work.
The event will consist of three technical sessions and one AIU Business Session, in addition to inaugural and valedictory sessions. The AIU Business Session will feature a summary of various initiatives recently undertaken by AIU to improve value-added services for its member universities. The outcomes and recommendations from this West Zone Meet will later be discussed at the National Conference of Vice Chancellors and will subsequently be forwarded to government bodies, universities, and other relevant organizations for appropriate action.
